Episode 10: Denny Van Zanten (Pella Corporation)

My guest on today’s podcast is Denny Van Zanten, who is currently the Plant Manager at the Sioux Center location of Pella Corporation. Denny gives some insight into how his roles changed and developed through the years with the company, and ultimately what led him to moving closer to family by relocating from Pella, IA to Sioux Center.

In this episode, we discuss how Denny developed his leadership style by focusing on the concept of servant leadership. Denny starts by giving his definition of servant leadership and how that effects the daily decisions that are being made in the company. He shares the approach of having team members most directly involved in the processes give suggestions for improvements and how they incentive a culture of constant feedback. We also talk about ways that the company encourages volunteerism and other ways of giving back to the community. We conclude the interview by discussing how to measure success and the importance of developing relationships to have a positive influence on others.
